It's this rejection on rejection on rejection that is the most dispiriting part.

…y rejections and you could lose your spot in the program, so anxiety about the program was rampant. It became so insulting to nominate good stories only to be told they weren’t worthy, that soon it wasn’t worth the emotional toll.
